Sculptra® At Modern Women’s Health

Sculptra® is an injectable treatment that is FDA approved and uses poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds, contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles. Unlike other injectable treatments, Sculptra® is a biostimulator that works gradually over time to produce natural-looking results lasting up to two years or more.

What Is Sculptra®?

The FDA-approved injectable treatment consists of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA), a  biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic molecule chain that is gradually absorbed by the body. It has safely been used in medical devices (such as dissolvable stitches and other implants) for over 30 years. Sculptra® is unique because it stimulates collagen production in the skin, which helps restore skin strength and improve the skin's texture.

How Does Sculptra® Work?

When injected into the skin, Sculptra® stimulates your body's natural collagen production. Collagen is a protein naturally found in your skin and helps keep it firm and elastic. As you age, your body produces less collagen, resulting in wrinkles, sagging skin, and loss of facial volume.

Sculptra® helps to counteract this natural aging process by triggering your body to produce more collagen. The PLLA-SCA microspheres in Sculptra® act as a scaffold, supporting the growth of new collagen fibers. Over time, the PLLA-SCA is absorbed by your body, leaving behind only the new collagen produced.

Unlike other fillers that provide immediate results, Sculptra® works gradually over several months. It is done as a series of treatments need multiple treatments several weeks apart to achieve your desired results. The effects of Sculptra® can last up to two years or more, making it a long-lasting solution for facial rejuvenation.

Sculptra® Benefits

Here are some of the many benefits of Sculptra®:

  • Long-lasting, continually refreshing results for up to two years
  • The results look natural and subtle rather than fake or overdone
  • Non-surgical treatment with no downtime or recovery period so that you can return to your normal activities immediately after the treatment
  • Customizable treatment based on your anatomy and desired outcome
  • Clinically tested and approved by the FDA for treating facial wrinkles and folds

What To Expect During Your Sculptra® Procedure

Before the procedure, the treatment area will be cleaned, and a topical anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort during the injection process. Sculptra® is then injected into the targeted areas of the face using a fine needle.

The number of injections needed will depend on the individual's goals and the severity of their skin concerns. Two to three treatment sessions are typically recommended, spaced four to six weeks apart, to achieve optimal results.

It is important to note that while Sculptra® can provide long-lasting results, it is not a permanent solution. Maintenance treatments may be needed to maintain the desired level of improvement.
