What is Biote?

Biote® is a bioidentical hormone replacement therapy designed to balance hormone levels. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) may help relieve the symptoms of hormonal imbalance by raising hormones to their normal levels.

Biote works by using pellets that are placed underneath the skin, where they release bioidentical estradiol and testosterone into the bloodstream 24 hours a day. The specific type of pellets and levels prescribed will be customized to each individual patient. The pellet implantation is a simple, in-office procedure. The pellets are gradually absorbed, dispersing hormones throughout the body to offer a consistent administration and help address rollercoaster-like effects.

The Biote pellets are tiny, custom-compounded therapies for symptoms that arise from hormonal imbalances. These pellets may help keep a patient’s hormone levels consistent throughout the day. The pellet therapy that Biote trains on uses hormones that are bioidentical to those found in the human body.

Each patient’s symptoms are unique, and so is each patient’s path to hormone optimization through BHRT using pellets. Most bioidentical hormone replacement therapy patients report some relief in as little as four weeks, but full optimization may take up to six months. The bioidentical hormones for our hormone pellet therapy will be customized to fit your patient’s specific needs.

"After my blood work assessment and hormone pellets, I have the energy I remembered 30 years ago. I work out daily and love seeing muscle tone and feeling vibrant and juicy again. My house is clean, I am happy and inspired…Without energy, nothing else matters so this is a priority. Do yourself a favor and change your life."

Testosterone--an important but often overlooked female hormone

One of the most important female hormones that are often overlooked is testosterone. It is not just a male hormone. In fact, there are more receptors in a woman's body for testosterone than there is estrogen. Testosterone drops down by half in women from their 20s to their 40s, which is often accompanied by a number of negative concerns: brain fog, irritability, headaches, low sex drive, fatigue, difficulty climaxing, hair thinning, difficulty maintaining muscle mass, night sweats, interrupted sleep, and even vertigo in some patients. Progesterone also drops in women’s 30s, and this can lead to increases in "estrogen dominance" symptoms: increased premenstrual syndrome, increased menstrual blood flow, difficulty sleeping, and sometimes anxiety.

Hormonal Imbalances Through Every Stage of a Woman’s Life

Younger women can experience hormonal imbalance, secondary to conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome. Both polycystic ovarian syndrome and even endometriosis are associated with estrogen dominance and inadequate progesterone. Birth control pills and other medications can lower testosterone levels, which can also lead to testosterone deficiency symptoms.

Immediately prior to menopause, estrogen levels will spike high and drop low and then with menopause, estrogen drops to an undetectable level which leads to hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, vaginal dryness, change in sex drive, mental fogginess, hair thinning, difficulty sleeping, and bone loss.

Modern Women’s Health is a leading practice and Biote provider. Biote replaces testosterone in women as early as their 30s through menopause to their 70s. For women in menopause, Biote will also combine with estrogen enhancement.

How do I know if I need hormone replacement therapy?

Hormonal changes can cause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, low energy, difficulty sleeping, brain fog, mood changes, vaginal dryness, decreased sex drive, and changes in muscle mass or body composition. However, these symptoms can have many causes, so hormone replacement therapy should not be based on symptoms alone. At Modern Women’s Health, your provider evaluates your symptoms, medical history, current medications, health risks, and laboratory results to determine whether a hormonal imbalance may be contributing to how you feel and whether Biote hormone replacement therapy is an appropriate option.

Is Biote only for women going through menopause?

No. Although hormone therapy is commonly associated with perimenopause and menopause, hormonal changes can occur at different stages of adulthood. Testosterone levels, for example, can change well before menopause, while estrogen levels can fluctuate significantly during the menopausal transition. Modern Women’s Health evaluates each woman individually rather than using age alone to determine whether treatment may be appropriate. Your symptoms, hormone levels, health history, reproductive status, and individual risk factors are considered before a treatment plan is recommended.

How long does it take for Biote hormone pellets to start working?

The response to hormone pellet therapy varies from woman to woman. Some patients may begin noticing changes within several weeks, while achieving the desired symptom response and hormone levels can take longer. Follow-up is an important part of treatment. Your provider may monitor your symptoms and laboratory results after pellet placement to evaluate how your body is responding and determine whether adjustments should be considered during future treatment.

How long do Biote hormone pellets last in women?

Biote pellets are placed beneath the skin and gradually release hormones over time before being absorbed by the body. How long an individual pellet treatment lasts can vary based on the patient, hormone dosage, metabolism, activity level, and other factors. Rather than following the exact same schedule for every patient, Modern Women’s Health develops an individualized treatment and follow-up plan based on your symptoms, laboratory testing, and response to therapy.

Is Biote hormone replacement therapy safe?

Hormone therapy has potential benefits, risks, side effects, and contraindications, and it is not appropriate for every woman. Factors such as your age, personal and family medical history, cardiovascular health, cancer history, history of blood clots, liver health, and whether you have a uterus can affect the risks and benefits of hormone treatment. Before recommending Biote, your Modern Women’s Health provider performs an individualized assessment to determine whether hormone therapy is appropriate for you and discusses potential benefits, risks, alternatives, and follow-up care.

Why choose Modern Women’s Health for Biote hormone replacement therapy?

Hormone therapy requires more than simply placing a pellet. Appropriate patient selection, dosing, laboratory evaluation, symptom monitoring, and ongoing follow-up are important parts of treatment.
