A Life-Changing Therapy

You shouldn’t have to live with uncomfortable vaginal symptoms. Many women think they simply have to deal with their problems, but they don’t. Help is available in the form of many treatments, and one of them is the MonaLisa Touch laser. This hormone-free laser therapy promotes tissue resurfacing in the inner lining of the vagina.

Ready to Feel Better About Yourself?

Now it’s possible with no pain, no side effects, and quick and convenient treatments. The MonaLisa Touch is an in-office procedure performed by practitioners specializing in women’s gynecologic and urologic health. Dr. Jukes and her team were the first to introduce this technology to Central Texas, and have done well over a thousand treatments.

They have been privileged to help women with contraindications to estrogen gain relief from vaginal dryness that can lead to pain with intimacy.  Many patients use it in combination with estrogen. The MonaLisa Touch is fractionated CO2 laser that has been used for decades for other areas, but is used in the vagina with proprietary settings to ablate pinpoint areas along the vaginal tissue that then stimulates tissue regrowth. It’s a minimally invasive laser treatment that delivers gentle, controlled energy to the vaginal wall tissue — restoring vaginal health by generating new collagen, elastin, and vascularization. The result is significantly improved vaginal symptoms…and a return to the way you used to feel. This procedure has greatly improved the quality of life for many women.

How the MonaLisa Laser Works

The MonaLisa Touch uses gentle laser energy that is delivered via a side-firing probe inserted into the vaginal canal. A two-part pulse targets surface (epithelial) tissue and deep (lamina propria) tissue to promote vaginal mucosal revitalization (micro-scratches in the vaginal wall). By gently acting on the tissue of the vaginal mucosa, the laser stimulates the production of collagen, which improves the functionality of the treated area and restores the proper trophic balance to the mucous membrane.

Who is the MonaLisa Touch Laser For?

As women become older, their estrogen levels decline. This can often result in vaginal changes and discomfort. Many women experience these problems during perimenopause and menopause, but they can also notice them after having children. Some patients have developed estrogen deficiency symptoms from chemotherapy, antiestrogen use with certain breast cancers, ovarian and uterine cancers. Others may be using estrogen but still suffer from vaginal dryness. If you’re in the Bee Cave and Westlake, TX area and you’re interested in the MonaLisa Touch laser but aren’t sure if it’s right for you, we welcome you to book a consultation with us to find out.

This treatment is typically an excellent option for most women who:

  • Are experiencing issues from a decline in estrogen
  • Are experiencing symptoms as a result of a hysterectomy
  • Are experiencing symptoms as a result of breast cancer treatments
  • Cannot, or prefer not to receive estrogen therapy
  • Haven’t had luck with vaginal estrogen, hormone replacement therapy, vaginal moisturizers or lubricants, or medications

Lichen Sclerosis

At Modern Women’s Health, we have also had success combining PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections with a series of external MonaLisa treatments to treat lichen sclerosis. Lichen sclerosus et atrophicus is a skin condition that causes scarring and narrowing of the vaginal opening, pain, and itching, among other changes. Medium potency topical steroids are the mainstay of treatment, but that is not always sufficient to restore damaged tissue. Our patients that have used this combination have seen improvement and we are happy to show those results to interested patients.

Recovery and Results

There is no downtime associated with the MonaLisa laser, although you should avoid sexual activity for 2-3 days following treatment. We may also recommend avoiding submersion in hot water and exercise for a short time.

Some women also experience temporary redness or swelling for a day or two. During your consultation with us, we will go over in detail what you can expect after your MonaLisa Touch treatment.

Most patients feel improvement the first week after their initial treatment, but multiple sessions are needed for optimal results. After your treatments are complete, we recommend yearly maintenance sessions for the best results.
